Coach K

With over 20 years of experience in government, organizational management, project management, social media management and investigative reporting, Coach K supports clients to implement transformational processes that yield groundbreaking results in their personal and professional lives.  She firmly believes that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. As an entrepreneur, project manager, leadership coach, speed networking specialist, talent manager and social media manager, she always leads with compassion and care for the well-being of people first.

Coach K is a native of Decatur, GA.  She attended Dillard University where she studied Political Science and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  After Hurricane Katrina, she transferred to the University of Maryland to complete her Bachelors of Arts in Government & Politics. During her eight years as Utahn, Coach K was appointed to serve as the 1st Chief Equity Officer for the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office and the 1st Project Manager for Salt Lake City’s 1st Racial Equity in Policing Commission. Under her leadership and in one year, she and her team created the citywide equity plan, developed and implemented the language access plan/policy, secured $300,000 for language access initiatives, and secured $160,000 grant funding in support of refugee resettlement efforts.  They also managed the city's 1st Racial Equity in Policing Commission and the Human Rights Commission, codified the Convention to Eliminate Discrimination Against Women, and transitioned the Accessibility Disability Advisory Committee to an official Board with powers to vote for recommendations of new ordinances and policies for the Mayor’s consideration.

Coach K was the first Black woman to run for City Council in District 3 of West Valley City, UT.  In collaboration with Representative Sandra Hollins, Coach K led community organizing efforts in support of the educational campaign to pass the state referendum which removed slavery from the Utah State Constitution. Coach K is an alumni of YWEmpowered (YWCA Utah), the Harvard Young American Leaders Program (YALP) and the American Council of Young Political Leaders Alumni (ACYPL).  She was selected to participate in the 2018 ACYPL exchange trip to Medan and Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Coach K has been recognized for her accomplishments and community work.  Her recent awards include: 

• A Sister Called to Serve Award Recipient (Greater Salt Lake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.)
• Woman of Impact Award Recipient (Impact Magazine)
• Humanitarian Award Recipient (Awarded to Mr. & Mrs. Lynch from Afro Utah)
• Community Servant Award (Tri Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.)

Coach K completed the following certifications and educational programs:  

• Leading With Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Certificate (University of Utah David Eccles School of Business)
• Promoting Racial Equity In The Workplace (Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Certificate)
